What is a Narrative Text?
A narrative text is a story whose main objective is to entertain and engage readers, by giving them an imaginative experience. The types of narrative texts that we will be focusing on are: Classic Tales, Legends, Myths and Fables.
A Classic Tale is a short story specifically written for children that includes imaginary creatures, fantasy events that happened a long time ago, good and evil characters, the presence of Royalty, a problem that needs to be solved and a happy ending. Some examples of classic tales are
Cinderella.
Snow white.
Pinocchio.
Sleeping beauty.
A Legend is a short story that narrates human actions that happened in a specific setting, time and place, they can include miracles or fantasy events that become more exaggerated over the time, they focus on individual characters and their achievements. Some examples of legends are:
Mulan
Robin Hood
King Arthur
A Myth is a story (or explanation) of how a nature phenomenon or situation originated. Its characters are often supernatural or mystical beings like gods/goddesses. In these stories, the laws can be bent or broken. Some examples of myths are:
Pandora’s Box
Hercules’s Missions
Thor’s Hammer
A Fable is a short story that gives a moral lesson at the end. It includes a few and small characters that are often animals with human traits. They encountered a situation that involves a moral decision or some sort of conflict. Some examples of fables are:
The Fox and The Crow
The Country Mouse and the City Mouse
The Ant and The Grasshopper
